Home Security Checklist When Family Members Stay Over

adt-fort-lauderdale-home-guestKeeping your home secure is a primary goal of your household members. You all know to lock the doors, close the windows and turn on the alarm; however, when you have family members staying at your home, you want to make sure that they too follow your safety rules.

Watch for Your Passcode

Giving someone your passcode is often a risky situation. The individual may not do so with malicious intentions, but he or she might accidentally tell someone else. The person may also write it down on a slip of paper to remember and then inadvertently leave that paper someone. When it comes to your passcode for ADT Miami has to offer, keeping it to yourself may be the best idea. Then, you just need to make sure you are always there to turn the alarm on and off.

Request Closed and Locked Windows and Doors

Explain to your guests that your household is one where you keep windows and doors closed and locked at all times. Let them know that your Miami ADT home security system does not function properly if everything is not closed up. You can, however, turn off different zones if you wish to open up the windows for awhile, for example. Still though, keep in mind that it is your home and that you have the right to request security rules are followed.

Ask them to Properly Close Doors

Some people just walk through doors and let the screen slam behind them. In a household where small children or pets are present, that idea can pose as a dangerous one. They can run out of the door when no one is looking. Remind your guests to do so, and if they do not follow through, remind them again. Also, feel free to put signs up around the doors reminding guests how to properly close them.

While you don’t want to offend your guests, you do need to make sure that your home remains a safe place for all.
