6 Ways to Improve Your Commercial Security

Commercial Security

Commercial Security

When people think of commercial security, they think of cyber security. There is a lot of security features businesses have forgotten due to current technology. There are a lot of things you can do to protect your business without expensive, complicated technology.

1.Use Appropriate Lighting

Lightening is extremely important for the security of your business. Your business should have adequate lighting for all entryways and exits. Before you leave for the day/night, leave at least two interior lights on that can be seen from the street. Adequate lighting makes a person think twice before they break into your business.

2. Use Signs

You would be surprised at how well signs work. Get a sign that states your business is a monitored property 24-7. Intruders will think twice about the consequences of being caught and stay clear of your business. These security signs should be placed in windows and in the yard of your business.

3. Invest in Sturdy Doors

The doors of your business should be made from sturdy material, such as metal or solid wood. You might want to consider putting additional locks on your doors for added protection. If you have a shed or have a business that has garage doors, these doors can be tightly secured with padlocks. The glass windows on the garage doors should be reinforced to prevent them from breaking.

4. Make Good Use of Your Windows

Windows are often the focus point for burglars because business entrances are often close to windows, giving them easy access to the entire facility. Use burglar-resistant glazing on your windows to make them stronger and difficult to shatter. In the event doors are in close proximity to windows, put heavy equipment or merchandise in front of the windows. It is less likely a burglar will go through the trouble to move equipment and break into your business.

5. Create A Key System

High tech, fancy key systems are not always great just because they are expensive. These key systems can malfunction and make your business vulnerable. You should use more than one key system to give your business added security. Keys should be provided to essential personnel in order to safeguard your business. Each key you provide an employee coded, numbered, and recorded to help you keep track of them. If an employee loses their key, all corresponding locks need to be changed.

6. Eliminate Hiding Spots

It’s easy for a burglar to hide on your business property if it is cluttered. Eliminate hiding spots by keeping the property free of debris and neat. Common hiding spots include, behind dumpsters, sheds, and areas on the business property that are not well-lit. You may want to put security devices on the outside of your business for an extra layer of security.
